In the morning we will go to Garni pagan temple. It is located in Garni village of Kotayk region, on the right bank of Azat River. The temple was built in the second half of the 1st century AD (77 AD). After the adoption of Christianity, it was the summer house of Khosrovdukht, the sister of King Trdat III. The temple was dedicated to the God of Sun Areg-Mihr (Mitra), and it 24 columns symbolized the 24 hours of the day.
In addition to the temple, the bath/sauna, consisting of four consecutive rooms of the same direction – the bath hall, the cold, lukewarm baths, is of great interest. After seeing the temple, admiring the nature and the environment, we will taste the uniquely delicious Garni gata (national pastry) with sun-kissed apple.
We will continue the impressions of the day in the “Aya Maria” health resort SPA center, enjoying the Armenian royal sauna, which is reminiscent of the famous bath of Garni temple, has preserved some of its structural features. The bathroom has two floors. The wood is burning on the first floor, and the water is flowing. On the second floor, through the cracks in the floor stones, the boiling water with aromatic oils and herbs, begins to evaporate, rises, then, touching the cold glass, turns into condensate, flows down the walls.
Alongside, we will enjoy Aroma tea and grilled apples. For an additional fee, we will be able to use the other services and massages offered, of course.
We will return to Yerevan full of impressions to plan our next day off.
